University of Chicago Discussion
Chance me please? I chance back.
Chance me? My dad went here and he reaallllly wants me to go haha
Would anyone like to chance me? I just applied, and I know my ACT's are on in low 25% of the students. Any comments welcome!
How do my chances look? I feel like my SAT I will bring me down (good but a 680 in Math) but I am going to take it again and hope for a 730+ (last date this January).
Can people chance me for UChicago? I love that (from what I've heard) it's okay for me to be dorky there. Also, my Dad got a degree there and loved it.
deferred
How do you like my chances at UChicago? My sister goes there and I wanna join her so bad
Your chances are quite good. The fact that your sister attends will help some. You may also want to add Northwestern to your list of colleges.
anyone else apply early action for class of 2017? i'm so anxious to get results! it's my first choice. hopefully we find out on the 17th...
Hey, i got a 2300 on my SAT, and my ACT score is 34. On my subject matter SATs I scored above 750 on all of them, I did US History, English Literature, and US History. I will have completed 8 APs by the end of my senior year. I also scored 5's on all my AP exams. The only drawback is that my GPA is a 3.4 because of my Freshman and first half of my sophomore year. What do you think my chances are of getting into University of Chicago?
Looking at the scatterplots uwgpa "cutoff" appears to be 3.35. Reported results show no admits below this gpa. So you do have a chance with a 3.4 gpa.
However, your chances are less than 50% at both U Chicago and NU. Hopefully you have applied to a couple safe schools. If not, consider applying to UW Madison - They accept applications up to 2/1.
UChicago looks less at test scores than other schools, but activities and essays can make up for a "low" GPA (3.4 isn't low by non-ivy standards). Don't stress, and you have a pretty good chance.
Do we have to get a really high GPA or really high ACT score to get into U of Chicago? I got a 28 in my ACT, for now, my GPA is about 3.8, but i really want to go to that school... It's that possible?
If your SAT score was above 2200, you probably have about a 45% chance of getting in. If there's any way of not sending your ACT scores and sending a comparatively better SAT score instead, do that.
Your chances at U Chicago are between 10% and 20%. Almost all accepted applicants had ACT scores of 30 or higher. At your GPA of 3.8 most admits scored 32 or higher on ACT (or above 2100 on SAT combined).
Check out the scatter plots and decision summary tables for more details.
Hi everyone,
I have a little concern about the U of Chicago on parchment.com. As one of the most competitive schools in the nation, I think it's fair to say that U of Chicago is equally good and hard to get into as Columbia, Penn, Duke, and Caltech. However, I found that my chance on parchment.com for U of Chicago is significantly higher than other schools that aren't so good, such as UC Berkeley, UCLA, Georgetown, Northwestern, Cornell, and Johns Hopkins. Would someone look my profile for me and tell me why is that? Also, what can I do to make myself more competitive and capable for Cornell and Northwestern (which are my dream schools for now)? I'm a rising junior so I think I still get plenty of time to build myself up.
Thanks!!!
VH
PS. My SAT1 scores are estimation from the mock tests I've done in the test prep center. I think I can improve them by the time I start my college applications. Also I'm taking 4 APs in junior year which should give me better GPA. My school puts a 5 points extra on AP courses.
For Cornell and Northwestern: IT IS ALL ABOUT TEST SCORES. These Universities worship test scores. To improve your chances you need at least a 33 ACT composite or a minimum SAT combined of 2200 for a good chance. These schools also require good grades - typically above 3.75 unweighted gpa.
The test score focus is in play at UC Berkeley, UCLA, Johns Hopkins and Georgetown as well. At the California Universities you can get admitted with a 3.3 or 3.4 unweighted gpa if you have a great test score (say 2300 SAT). For Georgetown and Johns Hopkins a gpa of 3.8 or better is usually needed for serious consideration no matter how good your test scores.
The University of Chicago puts more focus on gpa and a bit less on test score results. Your 2100 SAT test score is "a bit low but in range". However, you should try to get your unweighted gpa to 3.85 for stronger consideration.
I'd really like to go here, of the three schools my Dad got a degree at it was his favorite, and I usually agree with him... anyone want to chance me?
What does "chance" mean?
Could someone please chance me? It would be appreciated very much!
You have been chanced.
Please note it is the depth and breadth of a few extracurricular activities relating to a couple areas of interest that matter - not the "count". Quality ECs span multiple years and show substantial time investment. A job would be a nice thing to add. Go deeper with a couple ECs to show impact - don't add more.
High count EC profiles (say more than 8) look like a plague that may count against you.
Can someone chance me? Something about a computer ranking me doesn't reassure me in the slightest.
Am I aiming too high? I hate how my people view G.P.A as someone's intellectual capability.
If you like the Chicago area, consider applying to Loyola University in Chicago and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Loyola is a medium size private university that has a lot to offer - check it out.
yeah you're aiming way too high. sorry but uchicago and nyu will never accept you. try for easier schools and for reaches try less prestigious state schools.
chance me please!
chance me please!
Chanced you. Could you chance me back please? I'm also looking at UChicago.
Hey congrats to all who were accepted. I will see you in the fall!
Oh wow, accepted! Can't believe I got into my first choice! Can't stop smiling like an idiot.
Yay! Congratulations!!! :D Keep smiling like an idiot ;) that's the BEST!!
SO basically I have had for the past three years an unweighted gpa of around 3.8 but it was something more like 4.3 or 4.4 weighted. However senior year I took 5 AP classes, a college level calculus course and a for credit journalism class at the school paper (I'm managing editor). Miraculously I scraped all "A's" I'm just wondering if anyone here knows how much weight UofC tends to place on senior year grades? I don't know if it will bump me into the running or if this was too little, too late?
Accepted!!! Yayy!
Accepted!! I still have a few places on my list that rival Chicago for the spot as my number 1, but the stress is off!
Early action application has been submitted!! Woooo!!
I just poured out a little Poland Springs water in your honor. The driver of my Bolt Bus was not pleased.
Applying early action! Is anyone else with me?
Absolutely. Just looking over my essays for the billionth time, making sure they're where I want them. I'll probably submit before the weekend
I'm the same way, really. It's exciting!! We get our decisions so quickly.
to those who were waitlisted, can you please post you SAT1 scores without writing, just so I can get an idea of how my chances are, I know thats what this website is named after, but the information I got hear is alot different than what I have seen elsewhere.
I got waitlisted also, does anyone know when the wl decisions are out? What are you guys doing to get off the wl?
im trying like hell to get off the waitlist but since the wl is so huge, odds are really bad, shoulda just applied EA, where the acceptance rate is like three times higher. Damn, considering i dont have any other options i really want to consider.
Accepted, waddup and i'm going. Anybody else?
and hey guys yeah there was a lot of applications this year it was a &^%$ing hard year for them. Admissions rates went from 38% to 27% to 18%.
Waitlisted, as well! I hadn't expected anything from them, so even that was somewhat serendipitous...
i feel like uchicago waitlisted ALOT of kids this yr since they got like a 42% increase in apps, kinda like what washu does, so im not very optimistic bout my chances of getting off the wl. Looks like its state school for me
Rejected as well. I was kind of expecting it, but I couldn't help but hope my essays would pull through. Oh darn.
Was deferred but eventually rejected... but not a big deal, got an offer from UCL (University College London)
Had no idea decisions came out today. Came home, checked my email, and was waitlisted.
Rejected. Oh well, I guess it wasn't meant to be... I'm actually not as bummed as I thought I would be.
I had no idea decisions came out tomorrow... I'm scared D: Praying for good news...
So decisions come out tomorrow at 11, had no idea, they werent suppose to come out for another ten days, shit, i get to add another rejection letter to my pile a little early
All top tier universities want great ECs. Numbers get you in the door, but ECs set you apart. Looking at your profile, you're kinda sparse. Essays will have to balance it out.
How much do Extra Curriculars count for this school? I have a decent amount, but I'm not sure if they're enough to warrant a second look by the University.
guess we'll find out in april if "they're" kidding or not. remember these are statistics, and the site itself claims 80% accuracy, so take it with a grain of salt.
My situation is the same as the last post. My first choice and I got deferred. Please rate me?:(
This is my first choice school and I got deferred :[ I would be grateful if you rated my chances, especially if you attend/have attended UChicago.
applied here EA, denied found this site, input my info put this school as EA, like 5% chance
put down RD, its 31.6%
pissed, should have done RD
it says i have a 100% chance of admission... there's no way
I got in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my chances have been going up and down by ten percent just about evertime I log in so your guess is just as good, or better than mine.
my chances have been going up and down by ten percent just about evertime I log in so your guess is just as good, or better than mine.
Also, my Selectivity Index has not increased since then. Still at 870, at a school which doesn't value my high SAT score all that much. My chances went up at all my schools, and at Vandy they went to about 90%. o.O
I logged in today, and my chances have gone up about 20%. The last time I updated my info (a few weeks ago, when I added 5 AP exam scores) my chances were about 40%, and now they're about 67%. The average GPA for accepted students (significantly higher than mine) went up during this time. Also, when I check the "applying early" box, my chances go DOWN. Would someone like to throw in your two cents as to how this happens?
