Yale has been my dream for as long as i can remember!!! I just moved from Australia at the start of my Junior year. Because of this, i was not able to take any AP classes from Freshman to Junior year. Will this hurt me in my chances to applying to more elite schools? P.S. I was in a Selective School in Sydney, which is equivalent to a Magnet School. Thanks :)

Does anyone know how much (if at all) the Yale Global Scholars Program affects admission to Yale?

Hi, I'm wondering what my chances are for getting accepted in the regular decision. I have a composite ACT 33, SAT combined of 2090, 9 AP classes ,3 dual enrollment classes at UGA GPA (unweighted) 4.0 GPA weighted: 4.3 Captain of two varsity sports and president of 5 school clubs Hispanic I realize my scores are definitly on the lower side for the school, but I thought I would apply anyway. If you all could tell me what you think, that would be greatly appreciated! Also, the essay I submitted had a huge typo, and "i" instead of "I" Oops!

i'm east asian, applying regular decision. 4.0 unweighted gpa, 36 composite on act, 2310 on sat, 800 on sat math 2 and chemistry, will have taken 12 ap classes and 7 honors by the time i graduate, 5s on all of the ap tests i have already taken. relatively involved in clubs i'm passionate about and hold a few leadership. full details on profile. thanks!

Highest chance Asian can have is 30%. Which is actually 50%.

Although you have obviously worked very hard and have earned an education to match your achievements and aptitude, the chances of being admitted to Yale are low. There are very few students as talented as you, but the university is quite small. If you can pay for some of your education, you might consider UChicago. They are expanding and have more room for talented students like you. If you need a "free ride," applying at your best state college is probably a safe bet. If you look at national college rankings, at approximately #100, is where you will find your best chances of receiving merit aid.

Does anyone have an idea of how likely my acceptance would be at Yale? I scored a 32 Composite on my ACT (36 English, 29 Math, 34 Reading, 30 Science, 10 Writing). I'm half Filipino, half Caucasian. I'm heavily involved in extracurriculars (NHS President, Math Club Co-President, Medical Club Officer, Inter-Club Committee Officer, Gay Straight Ally) and my class rank is 20th out of 400 students. My unweighted GPA is 3.95 out of 4.0, and weighted is 4.35 out of 5.0. I'm taking five AP classes as of right now, and my last two AP classes I took one AP Test for Language and Composition and scored a 4. Any ideas? I can provide more info if needed.

I think you have a fairly decent chance if you claim the half Filipino, half Caucasian. Don't listen to LittleBird 17; you can do way better than community college! :)

0 points by Steen   8 months ago

Your chances at Yale are 10% based on classifying yourself as Caucasian. If you can claim Hispanic ethnicity (assuming Filipino is not an option), chances should be around 40%. The "other minority" and Asian classifications have the same disadvantage as Caucasian in applicant selection.

You have a very low chance, FIRST OF ALL, your lying, or retarded, your takin all those AP classes an you get a 29 in math, and a 10 in writting(in your ACT), your not takin all those Ap classes and are in all those extracurricular activities, either you only sleep 1 hour a day, or your lying. So main point is that you are not goin to Yale, so start thinking about community.

If you could use proper grammar (assuming you're unaware of the contraction "you" and "are" to make "you're", whereas you are now mistaken and making use of a possessive), I might have taken your comment more seriously. I've worked very hard to attain officer status in multiple clubs whilst juggling a high GPA and holding two jobs. Do the words "work ethic" mean anything to you? In addition, I noticed that your low SAT index scores and "Sim City" claim to fame don't give you much to work with in search of colleges. Come back when you've obtained some real attributes.

To anyone saying "my [insert relative here] went to Yale," congrats. You have smart relatives. The schools care most about your essays, test scores, grades, character extracurriculars, etc. If you and another student are EXACTLY the same, then being a legacy might help you, but otherwise not. Unless said legacy donated millions to the school. Bottom line-until your SAT clears 2100, and you have a perfect GPA, stellar extracurriculars and a flawless essay, legacy doesn't really matter. Yale will take qualified applicants only. GPA is also so inflated nowdays, that according to a Stanford admissions rep, some students apply with 10.0 GPAs. They look more at if you challenged yourself by taking hard classes. That said, good luck!

Nah. But I did apply into a science major and got in (despite having a lower than average SAT score and applying for financial aid) BTW, I'm a girl, so that would probably be a big advantage over other people who applied into history/art/philosophy majors

I have read up on the Skull and Bones club a little but I was kind of hoping to get a student's perspective. Is it a prominent thing on campus or do kids talk about it a lot. I am just curious.

1 point by James   2 years ago

It's like 18 seniors per year. Societies as a whole make up a reasonable part of many Yale seniors' Thursday and Sunday nights, but otherwise they're inconsequential for social life. The frats, which aren't a huge scene at Yale, are much more consequential

Is it really secretive about who the members are or do people know who is in it?

22.1% chance I guess that is good considering the regular admit rate is 9.9% but it is still kind of scary. I guess the good thing is that I haven't seen many with much of a better chance than me who doesn't have a legacy. Am I correct when it comes to these points?

This means being Hispanic or another minority gives me nearly 5x better chance at being accepted than if I am white.

In an attempt to level the playing field in terms of equal representation at college, affirmative action has become a form of discrimination. I have a 99.3% average at school, but my Hispanic friend with an 85 average has a significantly higher chance of getting into my dream schools than I do. As much as I agree with the idea begin AA, the application of it has really disadvantaged whites and Asians. Whenever decisions are made based on the colour of one's skin, there is a problem.
