New York University Discussion
Hey guys! Chance me! I have a 3.8 UW, 2010 SAT score, good amount of extracurriculars, and I'm an African-American Male!
Try www.StatFuse.com to see what your chances are, they have an automated system. It was accurate for me.
Can someone chance me please. It will be much appreciated :)
Chance me for LSP? I applied directly. I have a 3.85 GPA (weighted on a 4.0 scale, I know I know. I don't get it either but my school doesn't do unweighted). I have a 1900 SAT composite (R: 620 M: 550 W: 730). I've done plenty of extracurriculars including being an associate on a local, student-run television show, and intern at the museum of fine arts. So could anyone chance me? It seems to be a reach for CAS or Gallatin or Stern, but I applied for LSP.
Someone please chance me! SAT score is 1880. 3.8 GPA (unweighted). I'm an IB candidate, and I take 4 HL courses. I have taken ballet for about 14 years, and I'm part of a pre-professional program where I dance about 30 hrs/week most of the year. I also help teach younger kids' ballet classes for community service. I am in NHS and Red Cross Club. I have participated in many events with my church, including volunteering in the nursery. What are my chances of getting in?
Pennyrocky, although your uwgpa is on the lower end for NYU admits, it is in range. I think you will get in - chances 75%.
You may also want to consider Northwestern (it is noted for journalism, is in your home state) and Carnegie Mellon. Northwestern is extremely selective with test scores but not quite as selective with uwgpa - that works in your favor. It is probably a better IL option for journalism than the University of Chicago.
If you could take the time to chance me, I will hug you. 35 ACT composite GPA weighted (4-point scale): 3.9 GPA unweighted: 3.6 There is a significant upward trend from freshman year. I have started my own camp for economically disadvantaged, Spanish-speaking (I'm fluent) youth. I volunteer to teach dance classes in Spanish every Saturday. Other extra curriculars: Musical productions, Dance show productions, School newspaper, media club, and I run my own blog. I am also a professional singer (my music is on iTunes), and I teach technology/computer lessons to senior citizens. I can't apply ED because my family simply can't take that financial risk. I have demonstrated interest in the school by touring campus and attending various NYU events. I really would like to pursue my own major of Peace and Social Justice at Gallatin or do the Global Liberal Studies program. I am more than willing to attend CAS or LSP. I am graduating a semester early next year (senior year) to travel the world and do community service. Thanks in advance, guys. I really appreciate it.
Chance me! 3.97 GPA unweighted on a four point scale, 28 on the ACT and hoping to improve more, consistent honors and AP classes, officer in Student Government, member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, three year recipient of science, social studies, english, and spanish departmental awards of excellence. I also have played varsity volleyball since sophomore year and play club volleyball. I am an agency signed model so i spend a lot of my time doing that as a job.
What are my chances of getting in? I currently have a 4.71 weighted GPA and a 4.0 unweighted. I am a member of Mu Alpha Theta, NHS, my school's rocketry team, and my school,s band. I don't volunteer much but next year I plan on doing as many clubs as possible since I don't have as many hard classes. I haven't taken the ACT yet but my estimated score from the PLAN test was 32-34, and I plan on taking the ACT multiple times before applying.
can someone please tell me my chances? I have a gpa of 4.21 weighted and 3.88 unweighted, an sat score of 2110, and I will have taken 10 AP classes by senior year. I've volunteered for my church ministry as a TA, at a senior home, and will be volunteering as a tutor in the Uncommon Good mentoring program. I'm also a part of Key Club and the copy editor for my school newspaper. thanks! (:
Around 70%. Your grades and test scores are in range. The decision may come down to your essay, letters of recommendation and DEMONSTRATED level of interest. Visit the college to increase your chances or atleast set-up an interview/meeting with a local alumni.
BTW. just so people know, this website is wrong. NYU's acceptance rate is 32%... meaning 68% of those who apply are rejected. Additionally, if you get rid of LSP, NYU's real acceptance rate is 26%. Good luck all :) Source: (I go to NYU).
How can I better my chance of getting into nyu most of my family went here and I have one year left of highschool so what classes to take or more extracurriculars.
Please chance me. Thanks.
IB Program Rank: 2 of 33 (small class size) GPA: 3.95 (unweighted) / 4.64 (weighted) ACT: 30 (pretty low, I know)
University of Florida Citrus Research and Education Center Volunteering for 3 Summers now National Honor Society Future Business Leaders of America, Parliamentarian Distributive Education Clubs of America, Parliamentarian Creativity, Action, Service Club, Member Proficient in Mandarin Chinese and Spanish Proficient in Adobe Photoshop CS5 (Adobe Industry Certification for Adobe Photoshop CS5 )
What are my chances? I am currently a junior in high school, with a weighted GPA of 3.75 and a 3.35 unweighted, I will have completed the following AP's: Physics B, Calculus BC, US history, CompSci A, English, Biology, Statistics, Econ & Gov, and maybe 1 more)
I have taken honors English every year, if that matters and I've played soccer every year as well.
I know my GPA is kind of low, but what would be a good test scores for the ACT and SAT? And any tips!? :O
I completed my first three years of high school with a 3.1 cumulative GPA. At the end of my junior year I was diagnosed with a learning disability. I began receiving accommodations for my disability at the beginning of my senior year. I currently have a 4.0 GPA as a result of finally overcoming my disability. I sent my current grades along with a personal statement explaining this situation to New York University in hopes that my true intelligence will be recognized. NYU is my ideal school for my major which is dental hygiene. I applied straight to the four-year, direct admit DH program. The minimum requirements for this program are different than other majors. They are as follows: a grade point average of 2.8 or higher and a combined SAT score of 1000 or higher (21 combined ACT score). Please take this information into consideration before you chance me.
Chance me please :)
Hi guys :) can someone please chance me? I'm originally from Ecuador. I moved to the U.S two years ago and i don't know how things are looking for me right now. I want to go to NYU so badly but i have no idea if i even stand a chance. i honestly wish i would've moved here earlier so my transcripts would look differently. I'm working my butt of right now to get to at least 100 community service hours. I just need opinions. I don't mind if they're harsh at all. Just be honest :)
Hi, fellow Ecuadorian. :)
I moved here six years ago, and it was still hard for me to adjust, so I can't imagine what you must be going through. It seems to me like you have a pretty sollid resume, but I would work on getting your SAT scores and SAT subjects scores up. Other than that, you have pretty good credentials. I think NYU requires two SAT Subjects.. so make sure you take some!
I just applied early decision on November 1st. I currently attend a school that combines your junior and senior years in high school with your first two years in college. I will graduate with like 60-70 credit hours that might or might not transfer. My GPA used to be a 4.0, but obviously these courses are harder. Chance me..?
O.K. so here we go, I am a 10th grader who's biggest dream is to get into NYU. I'm getting a 3.5 out of a 4.0, but I'm taking the hardest classes there is to take. I'm only in 10th grade but i am taking AP math and all else honors. Also I have scored a 1720 on the SAT when I took it in 9th grade. I know I need to get that up but is it a good starting score for a 9th grader? When it comes to extracurriculers, I have had 200 volunteer hours all ready. I would get up at 6:00 AM during the summer and volunteer 7 hours at the Cleveland Clinic on Mondays and Fridays. I am also apart of Student Council, Key Club, our Youth Leadership Commission, and I am the editor of our school newspaper. What do you guys think?
Depends on what you want to major in at NYU. If you are thinking of majoring in Finance (Business Administation), yuor chances are very low. The SAT scores in general are 2100 and above and capped (8 semesters worth of extra points) GPA expectation is 3.8. Does your high school rank? are you in the top 10%? That could help.
Could someone chance me please?? Along with my stats I'm in Spanish honor society, started the school comic book club, played lacrosse, key club, I've worked in retail the past 2 years and attended a high school program on the campus this past summer.
I applied ED. Thanks!
I just applied early decision do you guys think I have a chance??
Nikki, looking at your academic record, I would say that you of course have a chance of getting in. Your SAT scores are not great, but I do believe that your extracurricular activities and the fact that you are applying Early Decision are some of the better parts of your application. I was thinking about applying ED at NYU, however they are bad with financial aid from what I have heard... best of luck!
Thanks! =]
Please chance me? This is my dream school! Both my uncles are alumni!
I know I'm not the best student, but I have wanted to go to New York University since I got in 8th grade. I have as good a chance as anyone else does its just that I am not as smart as some people. Can someone please have faith in me and chance me on getting into NYU! Thanks.
Can anybody give me some info on NYU Polytechnic Institute? There isn't a separate page for it so I was confused...
Does any one know the difference between the admission rate of NYU in general and that of Stern?
Can someone please look at my profile and tell me whether I should apply to NYU as a safety school or Stern-NYU as a target/ dream school?
Thanks!
can anyone suggest how many IB points and SAT score would this require, and also I am an international student.i want to know the average so please just dont tell me to get a high score.i have also vistied the university if that gets me better chance
Am I aiming too high? Or do I actually have a shot.... This is one of my dream schools... It's slowly becoming just that.. a dream. (Please chance)
Never under estimate yourself! If you wanna go here make it happen, if you live out of state make sure you look for scholarships and keep up your grades! :) ANYTHING'S POSSIBLE, and everything's possible when you're smart. lol
Chanceeeee me, I'll do it back :]
I think you might have a shot. You should really apply! :) But I think it'd be a lot better if you had more extracurriculars though but seems like youre really involved in your job!!!! are you applying to College of Arts and Sciences?
chance me please :]
chances bro?
Can someone chance me for stern por favor. In state 2210 sat nut 3.6 gpa erly decision and no financial aid.
This is my Dream School, Please chance me... I have never gotten below an A in any Course except for Sophomore year where i suffered through depression and got straight Cs and Bs
Hey, I'm applying here next year -- I feel like NYU is somewhere in-between a target and a safety school, but it's hard to be sure.
So, yes, I'm looking for someone to chance me. I'll shoot you a chance back; it also should be noted that my history teacher, a PhD in French history, attended NYU undergrad and taught there for a while, and will be writing my recommendation letter. And he likes me. :)
CHANCE ME please and i will chance you back. I Promise i will
Just visited the campus. The people there are way too liberal for my taste...
Is Steinhart a competitive college to get into? NYU is knokwn for business and art, so I was wondering if their health program also lives up to their reputation.
Just accepted! On their website it said that they wouldn't be emailing the decision until April 1st. Guess they realized how anxious I was :)
Accepted to the Liberal Studies Program with a 27 ACT. Lets hope financial aid is more than forgiving, otherwise I can't go. :
What is the normal Gpa and Act scores of a stern undergraduate?
Does anyone know if the chances on this site take into account the specific schools one is applying to?
Do you mean the undergraduate schools within NYU?
Yes, for instance I am applying to the Stern School. are my chances calculated only with the stats of other students who have applied there or will the stats of students who applied to say the CAS also be used?
Great question. Not yet, but it's high on our priority list because it's clearly important at some schools.
The stats on this site are rather unrelated to the individual schools because the stats are mostly tied to GPA and SAT/ACT scores. Admission differences in individual schools usually come down to more specific things that arent numbers (for example, business classes and extracurricular activites for Stern, video portfolio and extracurricular activities for Film in Tisch, etc.). This site is a good measurement device for how well you will do in the preliminary application review process, the one that NYU does for every applicant in addition to the specific school.
I agree with sweetandlow, please explain why my chances go down if I apply ED. I've heard that ED may or may not increase your chances, but I've never heard of it decreasing your chances.
This is purely a function of the results we've seen. When correcting for various other factors, we see a slight but significant decrease in chances for those who apply early to NYU. Whether or not this is a statistical aberration, I cannot say.
You can invent hypothesis for either result. If ED has a positive effect on your chances, you can say that the school gives preference to ED applicants. If it has a negative effect, you can say that so many of the strongest applicants apply ED that there is actually stiffer competition. The effect is small (I know a 15% jump in chances looks large, but relative to other factors this is modest), but without actually knowing what they do, I can only speculate.
Thank you very much for explaining. Do you mind if I ask one more question? I've heard that one reason why early decision is a good option is because spots fill up very quickly, meaning that RD students who are qualified might get rejected due to lack of space. Have you heard of this? Do you know anything about this at NYU? I understand if you're unfamiliar with this. Thanks!
Most top schools reject thousands of qualified students. E.g., Yale has said that they could drop their entire admitted class and then take the next 1300 with no perceptible drop in quality.
The question is, does this have to do with getting your application in early? I kind of doubt it.
Why do I have a 79.6% if I apply regular decision, but a 61.5% early decision?
if you guys got the travel plans email in late march, your in
Yeah I havent recieved anything from Tisch School of the arts at NYU yet either. Has anybody else heard back from Tisch?
Waitlisted...does anyone know when people who are waitlisted get a final decision?
Surprised there was nothing in the mail today. How come they are waiting so long to tell people, there is an accepted students event next week!
when did you find out? I'm still waiting to hear back from them. Did you get your decision in the mail?
I got into C.A.S. and will be attending, though I haven't found out how much financial aid they are giving me yet!
Is the Stern college the hardest to get into?
did you apply into the college of arts and sciences? Thank you for the info!
The decision packets are supposed to arrive on April 1, but I got an email today telling me I got accepted.
did annoying who applied to NYU for this fall receive an email about travel plans? if you got it ... do you know what the email means ?
I don't see your sat ii's in your profile so I can't say for sure, but if they are not as high as your other test scores, it certainly makes sense.
The selectivity index is only based on SAT, GPA, and class rank.
The second I post my SAT IIs, my chances go down by A LOT !!! As in 30%. Whats going on here? My selectivity index didnt change.
im kinda drunk right now cause its new years, butyou werent to clear and i agreed with that other person at fikast.
thanks hey, good luck with american, george washington, and NYU of course. I came so close to applying to to those GW, but I chose more local schools instead
Lulz, don't pay any mind. You were fine. ;) Just sayin'.
perhaps I wasn't clear?
simply saying I like NYU and that if admitted I would want go go there over other back-up schools.
I don't know what offends you by that...
i really hate the fact that this sounds so rude. could you please get over yourself.
it a good school (very, by some measures), I'm liking this 77% showing up. NYU is my favored 'safety school' (knock-on-wood, no jinx)
I WANT TO GET IN SOOOOOO BAD. It's killing me to wait.
Chance me?!
7.0% chance? yeah, alright.
SAT scores don't and will never measure up to pure perseverance.
I'm IN!
remember that, kids ;)
Can someone please look at my profile and tell me my chances!!!
Yes everything looks good, GPA, extra-curriculars, and etc. But to be safe I would defiantly try to bring up those Sat scores. Those extra- Curriculars look good and just do phenomenal on the essay and Im sure you'll get in. Good luck:)
nyu is my dream school and i have wanted to go there forever. please look at my profile and approximate my chances.. my sat score is low i no but i do alot and my gpa is great.. so please let me no
nyu is my dream school and i have wanted to go there forever. please look at my profile and approximate my chances.. my sat score is low i no but i do alot and my gpa is great.. so please let me no
It seems like you would be accepted but I wouldn't be sure? Just apply and see what happens.
is this really that accurate? someone look at my profile, im pretty sure that i dont have a full 100% chance of getting in...
@bdonenfeld92 - Is the coach actively supporting your application and using his/her leverage with the admissions committee?
How come my chances are 99.1%? that seems a bit high even though i'd be going for athletics
say whaat? 54.2%? thats wayy higher than my USC chances..that's a surprise
94.1% for nyu...? it's a loooot higher than my chance for ucla o__O
I have about a 57.3% chance, but I have taken a shitload of AP classes, and I am also going to submit a short film and an essay, so my chances could be higher.
This is good news. I think.
71.9% chance is do-able I think.
35 percent chance? OUCH! I think it greatly depends on where you come from as well as your academics.
35 percent chance? OUCH! I think it greatly depends on where you come from as well as your academics.
no.
anyone know what we can do to up our chances of getting into nyu?
94.8% chance holy crap - - - way better than what i was expecting...
Someone PLEASE tell me anything I can do to further expand my chances of getting into NYU.
From what I have seen by visiting and read about NYU, it's an amazing school but with a pretty high price tag. :(

Can someone chance me please? I am a Junior. My UW is 3.8, and my weighted is 4.0. I have taken 8 AP classes (receiving all 4's on the tests except for one 3 in bio and a 1 in chem), 9 honors classes, all above 90. I got a 28 ACT and a 1840 SAT (planning on retaking both). I am on my high school varsity bowling team, world language club, national honor society, national business and marketing honor society, etc. I was a volunteer bowling coach, a recreational aide in an assisted living home for a year and a half, etc. I have several jobs as well; I am a farmer and I work at a bowling alley in every position.
