Parchment Student Profile

With a school population of over 2,000 in a city of 72,000 there are a wide variety of different niches and groups to be involved with. One of the communities I have chosen to be a part of is the journalism department at my high school- more specifically the Esprit de Corps Yearbook. This year I was chosen for the position of Editor-in-Chief after being on staff for only a year. As a nationally and state ranked book, being in charge was a huge role to step into. Not only am I in charge of the yearbook and its content, I run a staff of 24 peers who have little experience and a lot of energy. My role as Editor makes me their boss, their coach, their role model, their friend and even their family at times. I spend more than 20 hours a week in the journalism lab helping staffers with deadline material and encouraging them to do their best. Aside from helping the members of my class I am also a link to rest of my student body and administration. Yearbook is an optional class where a wide range of individuals come together for a sole purpose. No one is forced to stay, or to even join in the first place so it is my job as a leader to make our publication one that staff members are proud of and other student want to be a part of.
