Honestly, if you have a lot of other things to blur it out (high gpa, high test scores, other involvement in extracurrics. and some varsity sports) you're probably okay with not being in NHS. It obviously doesn't look great but I think admission officers might be able to decipher that you're still a good kid if you have all those other things and understand teenagers obviously do stupid things.
