How important are ACT writing scores to colleges?

1 point by AKHAN7   11 months ago

I got a 36 on my ACT but my writing score is an 8 out of 12. Should I retake it to see if I can do better or should I just leave it the way it is? Would that increase my chances?

Most colleges dont care about writing, but just see if you took it. I wouldnt risk losing the 36, your're golden as is :) Good luck! Can you chance me and ill chance you?

if you got a 36 you've pretty much punched your own ticket to wherever you want to go

Your ACT composite score of 36 is impressive and good enough for any college. A writing score of 8 and above demonstrates competency and that is all schools are looking for. A writing score of 6 may have been a concern but, not an 8. Do not re-take the ACT, the downside potential is much greater than the upside.

Your SAT combined score will count against you in a big way. Make sure you don't send it in - if you do colleges would need to include it in their summary statistics so it might affect their admit decision.
