James Pirruccello

General Manager, Parchment.com

As General Manager of Parchment.com, James focuses on engineering, reporting, and research relating to Parchment.com. James joined Parchment with the acquisition of MyChances.net, a website that he created, which became the basis for much of Parchment.com’s analytical tools. While applying to medical school during his senior year in college, James became fascinated by the fact that the available admissions data gave most applicants very little information about their own chances of admission and set out to build tools that help college applicants understand where they really stood. James, with the help of his brother Brent, developed a system to analyze voluntarily reported student data and to give students tools to interpret the results. Brent and James have been fanatical about divining meaning from student data for 5 years. James Pirruccello received his BS from Yale University in 2006 and enrolled at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine upon graduation from college. From 2009-2011, he received a Sarnoff cardiovascular research fellowship and worked in the laboratories of Sekar Kathiresan, MD, at the Massachusetts General Hospital and at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. There, he worked on genome-wide association studies and next-generation targeted sequencing projects. This work included the discovery of the genetic basis for a novel Mendelian lipid disorder, familial combined hypolipidemia. James remains a medical student on a leave of absence from Johns Hopkins; his physician friends delight in reminding anyone who will listen that James is still “Mr. Pirruccello.”
