Scottsdale, Ariz.—Aug. 3, 2011—In a move that will allow students in more than 1,000 public and private high schools across the state to transmit their academic records with unprecedented speed and security, Parchment Inc. recently signed a new contract with the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC). The five-year contract includes Chicago Public Schools, the third largest school district in the United States.
The agreement is expected to make college not only easier to apply to, but also easier to pay for: ISAC, an independent state agency that reports to the Illinois State Board of Education, will use Parchment’s electronic transcript service to confirm students’ eligibility for college grants and scholarships. Parchment will filter student data in the state’s repository to package pertinent information for the grants and scholarships.
High school counselors and college admissions officers will also be able track when transcripts are sent and received and to which institutions information has been sent.
“ISAC’s mission statement is to make college affordable and accessible for all Illinois students,” says Abel Montoya, director of outreach operations for ISAC. “Parchment will help get the right data to the right places faster and securely—that can help students to both get into and afford college, which are among ISAC’s major goals.”
The partnership between Parchment and ISAC launches August 15, when high schools can begin registering for the service. Students at registered high schools can begin using the system for college admissions this fall. ISAC will begin collecting data for its scholarship and grant programs for next year’s senior class.
“Parchment is looking forward to helping ISAC make college a reality for more Illinois students,” said Matthew Pittinsky, CEO of Parchment, Inc. “We’re working quickly to get the system up and running so that this year’s seniors can submit their records without the hassle and uncertainty of submitting hard-copy transcripts by mail.”
