Princeton University Discussion
This is a cut-paste of what you posted on the Yale discussion site. Hopefully your essays are tailored to the unique features of specific Universities and why their college provides the best opportunity for you to excel.
Try to figure out a hook that sets you apart and make sure it is genuine. Do not focus to heavily on past accomplishments as that can appear self serving.
Like in fishing - you put out some attention getting bait, get a nibble, hook the prey and reel in your catch.
In other words, your essay must get the admissions staff attention AND then it needs to sell them on something "unique" you can offer that they are looking for - your hook.
Yes, this is a cut-and -paste of my other posts. I did that solely in hopes of getting the most feedback I can. I posted the same thing on 3 other discussion sites as well.
Chances Please. IB student. Did not list ECs - 1 sport x 4 years. Member of a few clubs. President of 1.
Someone chance me. I'm in IB all four years which parchment does not consider so chance me pls?
chance me please? i'm applying early action and my credentials are on my profile. thanks!
Okay, so if you guys have seen Toy Story 3 (I've only seen the beginning, but that's besides the point), you may notice that on Andy's wall, there is an orange banner With a blurry P and U written on it. And on the toy box, there is an orange sticker with "Go Tigers!" written on it. The orange colors were exactly Princeton's colors. And tigers?!!? Ladies and Gentleman, Andy from Toy Story got into Princeton.
I applied to 18 schools most of them being ivy and top ranked and this site said I had a 42% chance of getting in and also princetons "predictor" gave me a low chance too. I got into every single school I applied to with scholarships. You can see my profile. At first I was going to Yale but I chose Princeton instead of Yale, Harvard, and Upenn, why? So I can say IN YOUR FACE PRINCETON I GOT IN WITH A FULL SCHOLARSHIP BIOTCH
You know, by putting in false stats, you ruin the calibration for the engine which determines chances of getting in.
is he for real?
No, if you check his extracurricular activities it says he spent thousands of weeks per year on them, which isn't possible.
So..... Apparently there's a huge rivalry between Princeton and Penn that I completely missed until now.
And the winner is...
Haha, that's hilarious that it would work out that way. Oh well, both extremely good schools. Especially princeton's medic---- oh wait....
Princeton wins at life.
2400 SAT, 6 800 SAT II, 36 ACT, 3.85 GPA 32.7% chance.
Hello. My parents make below 2500 dollars per year. I live in Montana but go to a nonboarding school in New York. I have a 5.00 and 2400. Chance? I'll chance back.
PS I'm a Native American who has won science and math competitions at the national level. :]
Pretty impressive stats for a sophomore kid, keep it up. How'd you find the time to take the SATs, ACT, 6 Subject tests, 10 APs and still have 3 years left of high school? Dude, you graduating in the spring?
Keep in mind that Princeton doesn't have early action or decision (much to the chagrin of many a Princeton fan :] ). But seriously amazing stats!!
Good luck :)
You're a beast. 0_0
& isn't TJHS for Sci/Tech ranked as the best public magnet in the country?
Make your gpa 4.00 and look at how much it shoots up.
Remember, you are being compared against other people ON THIS SITE ONLY. Not everyone that applied to Princeton is on tis site, keep that in mind.
Interesting- at Harvard I have a 24% chance, at Yale a 30% chance, but at Princeton a 15% chance, even though overall admissions rates are lower at Harvard and Yale.
It would seem that your statistics on your profile are fraudulent.
I got a 2280 SAT and have a 4.2 GPA...and my chance of getting in is 6.3% Lower than the average! Oh well...I geuss that's just the ivy league for you
I'll grant that my chances are probably less than 50% due to lackluster extracurriculars, but I hope 27% is being a little pessimistic.
Well if you look at the Admitted ranges V. the Rejected Range, they pretty much overlap. It's a coin toss.
This site has been accurate for my friends that use it. I don't know if it's accurate for me yet..
No website or resource can perfectly determine if you can get in, but if you check out the chance details pages for the colleges on your list, you can get a sense of how well calibrated the model is for that college. (here's the chance details page for Princeton - www.parchment.com/c/college...) We've worked hard on these tools, so we hope you find them useful!
I wouldn't know since I have not been accepted or denied from any schools yet.
Whether a school is better or worse is subjective. Some people find NYU to be the perfect school for them while others perfer Princeton. In terms of rankings, US News and World Report puts out a famous list every year.
Is NYU better or worse then Princeton and if worse how much worse and if better how much better?

I think it depends what fits your personality better. Also, what majors you want to do in college. For example, if you are looking to go and major in politics or you want to do research then Princeton University is a great college for that. In addition, do you want to go to a busy city school like NYU or a suburban setting. Overall, both schools are great and it just depends on your preferences.
I think it may have to do with the fact that there are multiple profiles filling one particular bubble. I.e. there could be 3 profiles that share the exact same statistics, and one person got denied and the other 2 accepted
Whenever I click on one of the green dots on the graph, I find out that they were actually denied instead of accepted... Cant help but think the percentages are flawed too
