What are my chances of getting into Stanford, USC, or Vanderbilt? I am a Junior in high school, some of my stats are: GPA's Unweighted and Weighted respectively Sophomore GPA: 4.0, 4.73 Junior GPA: (not finished but learned how my school calculates GPA so figured out at the end of the year I will have): 4.0, 4.78 Senior GPA (expected, not finished yet): 4.0, 4.78. I am also currently valedictorian of my school and expect it to stay that way. SAT: 2000 flat ACT: 32 Clubs: Key Club, National Honors Society, Generation Green, Ping Pong Hours of Community Service: 230, I volunteer at the local outpatient physical therapy center and help the PT's. Varsity Sports: Cross Country, Soccer freshman year team captain, Alpine Ski Racing, Track I unfortunately could not participate in ANY sports my Sophomore year except cross country because I severely tore my hamstring tendons in both legs running cross country and the recovery took over a year, I can not do any sports until winter of Junior year, I am hoping that colleges won't look at it as if I just quit sports for a year and they will recognize it was because of the injury. Some highlights of sports accomplishments is in my Alpine Ski Racing. I qualified and raced in the Junior Olympics for alpine two years in a row and was ranked both years top 15 in the nation for my age group. I don't know that the colleges I am applying to will care about that, because they aren't big skiing colleges, but I am hoping. Some college classes I have taken at the local community college while in High School are Spanish 3, Physics, and I will take Math 107 (Calculus 3) next year (my Senior year) because I am in Calculus BC this year as a Junior. I realize my testing is very weak for the schools I listed. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hi, I am in the top 20% of my class. I have a 3.6 unweighted GPA out of 4.0. and a 3.83 weighted. I am an eagle scout and I have shadowed a doctor and a dentist. I have am in the math and history honor societies at my school.I have tutored over 100 hours for Kiwanas club ( a nationally recognized club for volunteering); however, I am not sure if that is really important. I have played Varsity Lacrosse for my school my sophomore year and had to take junior year off, but I will continue my senior year. I have done a ton of community service ranging from suicide prevention at school to being a counselor at a day camp in my school district. I have taken 3 AP courses so far and am taking 3 more next year, and I have taken 7 honors/accelerated learning courses so far. I have a 29 on my ACT plus writing, and I am a Missouri Resident of Asian/India descent. Do you think I have a chance of being accepted?

What should I do to raise my chances of getting in? I have a 3.9 GPA out of 4.15, I have been part of MUN for three years, participated in numerous conferences, and founded the European Youth Parliament at my school. I take IB courses, and have a predicted about 39-40. My SAT would be around 1950-2050. I have also won academic awards, and have gone to various seminars world wide regarding democracy. I did my Extended Essay in World Studies, in particular women's rights in Pakistan. Do you think I have a fairly decent chance of getting in? I would be applying for International Relations, in particular, International Economics. Also took two SAT subject tests Italian (800) and Spanish (680). I am planning on taking the ACT as well.

I don't understand your weighted and unweighted GPA of 4.00 with a 20% class rank.

1 point by Steen   12 months ago

Class rank at most high schools is based on a weighted gpa. Usually AP classes award a bonus point - so an A in an AP class counts as a 5.0 (some schools even go as high as 6.0 for an A). Therefore, someone with a 3.7 uw gpa could easily have a 4.1 weighted gpa and a higher class rank that the 4.0 student that did not take any AP classes.

Hey, Larry. Cool that the company you spam for "helped you get into UCLA this year with very sub-par grades" even though your parchment profile says you entered school in 2005. Anyhow, I was just curious how many sites like this you bombard with ads involving how bad a student you are/were.

you're really hard to chance, mainly because your test scores do not match your class rank or gpa. USC is a school that really values standardized test scores, but with your GPA, class rank and legacy status I think you are more likely to get in than most. Maybe a 60-70% chance? Chance me back!

Maybe you made a mistake on your profile, or there were factors in it that were different (your highschool wasnt a feeder when you thought it was, state champion of some club which wasnt recognized by the college, school weighed GPA strangely). The system isnt perfect. Deal with it. Sorry you didnt get in, and good luck in the future

Ha, I change my ethnicity to hispanic and my chances jump 21 %, that's messed up.

1 point by agonz   13 months ago

Well if you were a Hispanic student you would understand why. There is so much prejudice and expectation for you to fail. How would you feel if society looked down upon you academically? It is just more difficult to succeed.

USC has always been my dream school, but unfortunately my family is in financial crisis, and my financial aid package was horrible. I thought that after getting accepted, I was gonna go for sure... oh well. looks like its New York University w/ scholarship for me.

1 point by syogi123   2 years ago

o; thats horrible...have you tried looking at some of the outside scholarships available? if you have a college prowler account, you can look up scholarships that fit to your academic/personal profile..and since the FAFSA doesnt come out till January, you could be receiving more financial aid than you thought :D and congrats btw!
