Parchment provides learner-directed, requester-directed, and institutionally-directed exchange of official academic credential data, which is protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Parchment does not store or share academic records covered except as directed, and in compliance with FERPA.
Current high school learners using Parchment have exclusive access to opt-in to be discovered by colleges and universities as an optional and free feature of their Parchment account, from self-reported profile data, which is not in the scope of FERPA. This optional experience is only for high school learners, and may include the ability to indicate institutions of interest and answers to basic profile questions that help interested academic institutions prioritize their outreach, where they determine there may be mutual fit for enrollment. These parties include colleges or universities who have elected to use Parchment services directly, as well as services provided to academic institutions by Parchment’s partner, EAB. These features do not apply to learners who are using Parchment only for their high school equivalency, higher education, and/or workforce credentials.
Parchment allows learners to complete optional information associated with their profile, which may include a profile photo, educational background, personal background, test scores, extracurricular activities, work or internship history, awards/achievements, certain demographic information, such as contact information, race, ethnicity, or gender, and other elements classified as “sensitive data”.
High School learners must explicitly opt in to allow relevant parts of this sensitive data be shared with these defined parties and agree to the Parchment Privacy Policy as part of establishing their Parchment account. To learn more about Parchment account privacy settings, change opt in status, or see where data has been shared, learners log-in to access the privacy settings located in their Parchment account.
